Get to know Sopot (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Sopot.

Sopot is located on the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Gdansk. Together with Gdansk and Gdynia, it builds a metropolitan area. While the two neighboring cities specialize in commerce, industry and logistics, Sopot uses its favorable location and benefits mainly from tourism. As a small fishing village, Sopot belonged to the city of Gdansk. The history of Sopot is therefore closely linked to the history of Gdansk and it was part consecutively of Poland and Germany. The first sanatorium to utilize the close beach and the climate was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

Today, the city has almost forty thousand people and is a famous resort in Poland that is visited mainly by local tourists but there are also many foreigners due to the great flight connections Gdansk has. Sopot has very good beaches and many pubs, restaurants, and bars. Nightlife in Sopot in the summer is great as you can party twenty-four/seven -- there are so many places to go that you will need a lot of energy (and money) to experience them all. If you are interested in a crazy vacation, Sopot is a good place. You can also visit the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the City Hall, and other sights.

Hostels in Sopot normally do not operate all year long and finding a hostel in Sopot is not so easy in the winter. Sopot hostels are quite decent, although they are not great; you can book a Sopot hostel at quite decent prices, even in the summer high season. As the city is a resort, most hostels in Sopot are located near the seaside, which could be reached on foot. A problem might be the fact that most people come to Sopot to party, so finding a quiet Sopot hostel where you can relax in the summer is highly unlikely.
