Get to know Oslo (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Oslo.

The capital of Norway, Oslo, is a city steeped in beauty and has many stunning sights on which visitors can lay their eyes. It is also a city with rich history and has been Norway's capital city for a thousand years.

While there aren’t as many hostels in Oslo, Norway, as there are in its Scandinavian neighbours of Stockholm, Sweden, and Copenhagen, Denmark, there are still a few Oslo, Norway hostels for the budget-conscious travelers. However, it is recommended to book Oslo, Norway hostels well in advance if possible, in order to nab the best and cheapest accommodation possible.

Oslo is notoriously expensive, but a strategically planned trip can help tourists avoid shelling out the big bucks while on vacation. Public transport such as buses, trams, subways, and ferries are all available. In addition, Oslo’s city centre is small, so it is possible to walk to many of the attractions. A good tip is to buy and make use of an "Oslo Pass," which offers free travel on public transport and admission to many museums and sights.

Much of Oslo’s allure comes from its natural attractions. Oslo Fjord is one of the top things to check out while in the city. Also breathtaking are the Botanical Garden, the Ekebergparken Sculpture Park, Vigeland Sculpture Park, Normarka wilderness area, Church ruins in Maridalen, and the rock carvings at Ekenberg. There are many, many more naturally beautiful areas in Oslo, Norway, that are worth checking out, however.

There is also a wide range of museums and attractions in Oslo, Norway. There is the Norwegian Maritime Museum, National Gallery, Munch Museum, Holmenkollen Ski Museum and Tower, Museum of Oslo, The Kon-Tiki Museum, Oslo City Hall, Nobel Peace Center, Norwegian Folk Museum, and Akershus Castle. Many of these even have free entry.

Oslo also plays hosts to several entertaining music festivals including the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Grannittrock, Oslo World Music Festival, Inferno Music Festival, and Oslo Jazz Festival. It is worth researching which time of the year these specific festivals are held if any of the genres tickle your fancy.
