Get to know Nenagh (no more "I wish I knew this before")

Nenagh is conveniently located just off the M7 motorway, which connects Dublin (one hundred twenty kilometers away) to Limerick (thirty-five kilometers away). There are regular bus services to Nenagh as well as a train station located near the town centre. The town itself is relatively small, with a population of about eight thousand, but has a bustling atmosphere, especially on weekends with its many bars, shops, and restaurants. Nenagh has a fine Norman castle, which dates back to the thirteenth century that overlooks the town, as well as several other interesting historical buildings including St. Mary's of the Rosary Catholic Church.

Nenagh is located only eight kilometers from Lough Derg, a very beautiful lake that's popular for various water sports and fishing. There are several little beautiful villages such as Dromineer, Garykennedy, and Ballina dotted along the lake that are popular with locals especially during the summer. There is a popular hostel located in the village of Dromineer, which looks right onto the lake.

The picturesque Silvermines Mountains are located just six kilometers to the south of Nenagh. These are very popular among hill walkers and allow for stunning views of the Shannon Region. The traditional Irish sport of hurling is very popular in this region and there are usually games at the local stadium, MacDonagh Park. Nenagh is also located close to other tourist attractions such as Bunratty Castle (forty minutes away) and The Rock of Cashel (a one-hour drive). However, it is recommended to rent a car if you're planning to explore some of these areas. There are several nice hostels in Nenagh that are within easy walking distances from the main bus stop.
