Get to know Koblenz (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Koblenz.

Koblenz is a relatively small German city, but with over one hundred thousand residents it's still the third-largest in Rhineland-Palatinate state. Situated on the banks of the Rhine River, the city of Koblenz was one of the military posts established by the famous Roman commander Nero Claudius Drusus. Therefore it has more than two thousand years of rich and vibrant history, which is still present throughout the city and its surroundings today.

The most important sight can be found on the east bank of the Rhine River, on the mountain Ehrenbreitstein. It is the fortress of the same name (Festung Ehrenbreitstein) built in the early nineteenth century that can be easily reached by a cable car for a price of few Euros. There is a lot to see, although the view from the mountain alone is worth the trip. Just on the opposite side of Ehrenbreitstein lies Deutsches Eck (German corner), a lovely spot where the rivers Rhine and Moselle join together. If you are looking for something even older, there is plenty of breathtaking buildings from many centuries ago. Particularly interesting are the oldest church in the city, Basilica of St. Castor, and Stolzenfels Castle, located in southern Koblenz. There are of course a lot of other, more modern attractions waiting to be visited -- so don't let the size of the city fool you, because there is certainly a lot to see and explore.

As expected Koblenz has no airport, but it can however be easily reached by public transport via bus or train connections. As far as Koblenz hostel selection goes, there aren't really many options, because there are mostly hotels present in the city, but what you can find is not bad at all.
