Get to know Eugene (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Eugene.

Eugene is the second-largest city in Oregon and its nickname is β€œThe World's Greatest City of the Arts and Outdoors”. If you like either art or the outdoors, there is no better place to be!

This is the city where Nike was born, so naturally jogging is a very popular sport here, and hippies abound thanks to the wealth of art and natural beauty. Eugene is a college town. The most notable in the city is the University of Oregon, home of the Ducks. The University of Oregon is definitely worth a visit, because it has plenty of museums, libraries, and vibrant people (often on or near the campus you'll find a protest or awareness gathering of some kind). Some of the best restaurants and stores in the city, both chain and local, border the university campus.

Eugene is a very environmentally conscious city. As such, it is very bicycle-friendly and the public transportation (both buses and trains) is always available, making it easy for people staying in Eugene hostels to get around town. Eugene is home to some of Oregon’s greatest art, which can be viewed in a variety of art galleries. Eugene is well-known to be a rainy city (don't forget your wet weather gear!), but that does not prevent this city from being lively all day and all night. On the bright side, the rain contributes to the beautiful green spaces and flora found throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Eugene’s hostels fit the city's mindset perfectly. Many residents of Eugene embrace the values of hostels; they support working together and low-impact living. The hostels in Eugene are comfortable enough for one night, or for an extended stay if you decide to try to explore the entire city.
