Get to know Cumbuco (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Cumbuco.

Cumbuco is a little fishing village in Brazil that is about twenty-five kilometers away from Fortaleza and forty kilometers away from the main airport. One side of the village is surrounded by sand dunes, and the other side is bordered by the sea. From the tiny town center with small shops to the many water activities you can engage in, visit this little village to experience life in Brazil like never before.

Since tourism is such a major part of the village’s economy, there are hostels and other places to stay scattered around the town. Try to find a hostel near the town center so that you will not have to travel far if you run out of supplies or if you want to grab a bite to eat. The hostels are run by friendly locals who are known for their smiles, generosity, knowledge, and their helpfulness.

While here, make sure you visit the beach. It is the biggest and best attraction in Cumbuco. The best months to visit and enjoy everything the beach has to offer are the dry months, mainly between June and February. Kitesurfing is one of the most popular activities here. You can sign up for training courses in kitesurfing at one of the many schools in the village.

If you would prefer a different water activity, jet skis are available in the village too. Fishing is also encouraged and recommended: You can hire a small jangada boat and go fishing on the open sea with an experienced fisherman. This is one of the cheapest and most relaxing activities in Cumbuco. While doing this, you can also go for a swim in the deep sea. There are no dangerous animals in the waters here.

For a land-based adventure, you could rent out a 4x4 and go racing along the dunes surrounding the village on the other side. These are typically fast-paced and fun rides. For added enjoyment, tours and adventure guides are available.
