Jeffreys Bay Backpackers is an almost essential stop on international travelers’ itineraries. Known as a surfers' paradise, it has so much to it than that and boasts a number of backpacker hostels.
The Location
Jeffreys Bay Backpackers is located in the center of town, a short five-minute walk from the beach and handy for transport to and from Jeffreys Bay. The backpackers’ is surrounded by good shops, restaurants, and takeaways.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are three dorms here -- four-, six, and fourteen-bed rooms. The dorms are pretty basic. One has four bunk beds and one has two bunk beds plus two single beds; these are the cheapest beds in Jeffreys Bay, so don't expect any frills. The place is clean enough and the mattresses are ok with a thick duvet for the chilly winter nights. There's just a couple of power points in the rooms and no storage space. The larger dorm is located right by the bar, which could be an issue if it's busy and you want an early night. Choose one of the smaller dorms inside the house, although they are quite close to the sitting room, which has the TV in it.
There are a couple of cabins in the backyard around the small plunge pool. One is a double room, and one a family room with one double bed and two bunk beds. Both share a bathroom, which is right next door. There is also one double room inside the house sharing two bathrooms.
The bathrooms are clean with twenty-four-hour hot water and there are three showers and two toilets inside the house. The fourteen-bed dorm is en suite.
Common Spaces
Immediately inside the house after the reception desk is the sitting room, with two sofas and three cushioned chairs around the flat-screen TV. Adjacent to that is a dining table with two wooden benches and this leads into the shared kitchen. This has a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, and four-hob electric cooker. There is ample storage space for your food, and there is free tea and coffee all day. In the backyard is the rather green-looking plunge pool with sun loungers around it, and in the front yard is the tiny bar with a TV. There is good, free Wi-Fi here available throughout the house, but the signal doesn't quite reach the back garden cabins.
Summary
Jeffreys Bay Backpackers offer the cheapest beds in town and is very good value if you want no frills. Even so, for this low price, you still get free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, and a swimming pool, and the vibe is friendly. There is tons of information here and you could do a lot worse elsewhere in the country if you're taking the cheapest options.
