DRobles Backpackers is one of a clutch of half a dozen backpacker places within about a twenty-minute walk of Parque Central and the tiny streets that lead into Havana Vieja or Old Havana. These backpacker places are within a ten-minute walk of each other, but DRobles hostel is the cheapest of all of them.
The Location
Located on San Miguel, DRobles hostel is handy for Wi-Fi as the nearest hot spot is in the local park just two minutes’ walk west. There is also a kiosk here to buy the cards necessary to access the internet, which give you a user name and password. These cards can be bought for an hour or five hours’ use. There are many local eateries around this residential area where you can snack for very little money.
Rooms and Bathrooms
DRobles Backpackers has six dorms of either four or six beds, all bunks. Some of these share bathrooms and some are en suite. All of them are well kept and very clean, and the mattresses are firm and comfortable. There is an armchair in most of the dorms, but no lockers or storage cupboards for luggage. All the dorms have both a fan and air conditioning. There are only a few bathrooms, each with a hand basin, toilet, and hot water shower. With a full house, there could be a long wait in the mornings.
Common Spaces
Upstairs, where there are four dorms, there is also a couple of chairs and a table on the inside balcony (mostly used by smokers), and there is a sitting room downstairs with sofas and cushioned chairs by the front door. There is also a dining table here for those that opt to pay for breakfast. The kitchen is the family’s living room; it also has a TV, and they all live in the rooms leading off it, which means that guests are restricted to use of the fridge or the microwave.
Summary
DRobles Backpackers is the cheapest option in this area of Havana and is very good value for the price. The family that live here and run the place do not give guests a key to the front door, however. You must ring the bell every time you want to come in and look for someone to open the door when you go out. It doesn’t seem to be an issue coming in late at night, as someone always seems to be on duty, though. When we stayed here, the place had been newly painted, so was looking very clean and it’s hard to fault DRobles at the price they charge. It’s a bargain.

• How to reach us:
• The tourist can arrive from airport to the hostel by taxi or by bus the buses P-12 o P-16 came to Havana Centro from the Boyeros Avenue the area of the airport terminals.
• Transportation to/from Havana Jose Marti Airport
• Taxi is the fastest way to get somewhere. Transportation to Havana will take you approximately 20-30 minutes. Taxi parking areas are located in front of each passenger Terminal. Do not forget to settle the price before the ride. Usually it is about 20-25 USD one-way (20-25 CUC, convertible pesos). Although all taxis have meters, taxi drivers often do not switch them on.
• Public Buses
• There is no bus transportation to International Terminal 3. Public buses are convenient only for domestic passengers as they serve only Terminal 1. Public buses (Viazul or others) have a bus station in Vedado district of Havana. It is about 15 km from the airport. A special kiosk in the Arrivals Hall of the airport sends tickets for Viazul buses. Then you have to take a taxi in order to get to the bus station. The payment in buses is possible only in Cuban National Pesos, no CUC are available. This is one more inconvenience for foreign passengers. However, shuttle bus between terminals of HAV Airport is of great use for visitors.
