Description

Located in the Tourist District of Cow Bay, this building dates from the early 1900's. The rooms are cozy, bright and cheerful with brand new comfy beds. Friendly and informed staff, complimentary WiFi and a computer kiosk, communal common rooms with TV/DVD and basic clean, comfortable rooms with linen provided. Our atmosphere is family friendly with a focus on providing a safe, secure environment.

The building capacity is 45 people. Our accommodations:
- mixed dormitory and same-gender dormitory
- semi-private and private rooms with en-suite bathrooms
- 2-bedroom apartment with self contained kitchen, large living room, and fireplace.

There are 6 communal, private use bathrooms, and a well equipped kitchen with restaurant quality appliances. Laundry services are available at an additional cost for guests, as well as a huge backyard with a gazebo and BBQ/firepit.

We support local! If you stay with us you receive discounts with restaurants, coffee shop, the pub, and merchants in the Cow Bay tourist district. You also receive discounts on wildlife viewing tours (grizzly bear tour, whale watching tour), Oval Bay tour, and the Metlakatla Wilderness Trail.

The hostel has a complimentary shuttle service FROM the BC ferry / Alaskan ferry between 9:00am and 10:30pm and FROM the Via Rail Terminal between 9:00am and 10:00pm. Please contact the hostel in case you require pickup.

Dogs are welcome for an additional charge of $20 (first night)/$5 (each consecutive night). Reservations are strongly recommended May through September.

• The Pioneer Backpackers Inn is located only one blocks from the waterfront in the down town area of Prince Rupert known as the Cow Bay District. This colorful area is the tourist hub of the city, where Wildlife Tour companies, coffee shops, pubs, restaurants, art galleries, boutique shopping will be found. We are just 5 minutes away from the Tourist Information Centre, museums and grocery markets.
• The ferry and train terminals are located about 3km from the downtown core of Prince Rupert where the HI-Prince Rupert, Pioneer Backpackers Inn is located.
• From the bus and the airport drop off point, the hostel is about a 10 minute walk. Please do not walk from the train and ferry terminals if arriving after 10pm. There is a free shuttle bus to get you to the hostel.
• Greyhound Bus & Airport Directions
• Head northeast on 1 Ave W toward 7 St.
• Turn right onto 7 St.
• Turn left onto 2 Ave W/Yellowhead Highway E/BC-16 E
• Turn right onto McBride St/Yellowhead Highway Highway E/BC-16 E (signs for Terrace/Prince George)
• Turn left onto 3 Ave E. Destination will be on the left.
• BC Ferry / VIA Rail / Alaska Ferry Station Directions
• Driving:
• Drive along the highway into town - Yellowhead Highway (signs for Trans Canada Highway).
• Turn right onto 3rd Ave W.
• Follow through 2nd to sets of street lights. Building on left side 3rd Ave E.
• Free Shuttle Service:
• Free shuttle service to the hostel from the ferry systems and VIA Rail (available between 9:00am - 11:00pm). Please note: RESERVATION IS REQUIRED for the shuttle.
