Rodinia Hostel is a budget backpackers hostel in downtown Bariloche. The location is very convenient, and the hostel is cheerful and brightly decorated. The downsides are the poor Wi-Fi and unsociable atmosphere.
The Location
Rodinia Hostel has an ideal location, just three blocks from the main square and high street. There are several small food shops within a one-minute walk, and a large La Anónima supermarket five minutes away. The area has many pubs and restaurants.
The bus station is about an hour’s walk away, but there are public buses leaving every few minutes from the terminal that will drop you five minutes from the hostel. There is also a bus from the airport that brings you near the hostel. From the same bus stop you can find buses that will take you to popular viewpoints and hiking paths.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are dorm and private rooms available. Dorms contain comfy bunk beds with clean sheets and warm blankets. Doors don’t lock but there are decent-sized lockers for your valuables. There is limited storage space, so the floor can get a bit crowded with backpacks.
There are a few bathrooms spread throughout the hostel. They are basic but are kept fairly clean and well stocked with toilet paper and liquid soap. Showers are warm but there are not enough of them. Several of the toilet doors don’t have locks.
Common Spaces
There is something off about the atmosphere of this hostel. Despite having a bright and open seating area and large communal kitchen, the atmosphere is not conducive to meeting new people. There are lots of areas to sit in, but people tend to stay in their own groups. The staff also seem to sit around in the common areas a lot, so it can be confusing to know who is a guest and who is staff. The guests are far less multicultural than in most hostels -- the hostel is listed on a discount website for travelers from Israel, which means that an overwhelming proportion of the guests are from Israel.
The communal kitchen is large but poorly stocked (there's just two knives to share among everybody). There is supposedly a breakfast included, but it is just bread with one type of jam.
There is Wi-Fi throughout rooms and common areas, but it is slow and cuts out a lot.
All in all, common areas are bright and pleasantly decorated, but are let down by the rubbish Wi-Fi and slightly unsociable atmosphere.
Summary
Rodinia Hostel is a good budget option in a great location. It is clean and brightly decorated but is let down by the poor Wi-Fi and lack of atmosphere.
