How is Takama Guest House rated?

Takama Guest House Reviews

Takama Guest House is a good option if you're looking for a cheap place to stay; while the shower can look a bit messy and the kitchen is a bit old, both perfectly work. There's no dressing room in the shower so you should be careful to put personal items behind the curtain so they don't get wet. There are medium-sized lockers, air conditioning, curtains for privacy, and no curfew, It's definitely not a party hostel, and can be quiet.

The Location

It is located five minutes' walking from Kintetsu Nara Station and fifteen minutes from Nara Station. It is located on a corner and there are a few signs outside, so it’s not difficult to find it. Shops, convenience stores, and more are mainly located right next to Kintetsu Station. It is easy to walk in Nara, so you can easily move to Nara Park and explore other attractions.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The guest gets a small paper with the Wi-Fi password and the code for the main door. There are private (including a single room and a Japanese-style room) and shared dorms (including an eight-bed, mixed and a four-bed, female-only dorm). In the shared dorms, the bed is a bunk bed with curtain for privacy and there are medium-sized lockers (big enough for laptop, camera, wallets) right next to the bed. There is a plug and an individual lamp for each bed, but no hangers or shelves to put stuff. The bed is comfortable.

Since it’s a Japanese house, there are two toilets and a shared shower in this hostel, so sometimes there may be a queue for the shower. The shower has hot water and amenities (shampoo and body soap); however, you have to be careful since there’s no dressing room area, so things might get wet. There are slippers for the guests’ convenience.

Common Spaces

In the reception, there are general maps with information about Nara. There is a kitchen where you can find a microwave, fridge, and cutlery; it all looks a bit old, but everything still works. Coffee and tea are sold here. There is the Japanese-style common area found downstairs with a small TV, table and seats, and the common area upstairs with only two sofas. There is one laptop on each floor for the guest convenience. There is a washing and drying machine and you can leave luggage at the common area downstairs before and after check in (the owner leaves from noon to 3 p.m.).

Summary

This is a nice, cheap place that has the basics, but the kitchen and shower can look a bit messy and old so for some guests so it might be an inconvenience. Everything works perfectly though. It is located five minutes from the train station, so there are many shops, convenience stores, and restaurants nearby.

• From Kintetsu Nara Station
• About a 3-min. walk from Kintetsu Nara Station. Exit the station and walk to the west (opposite direction from Nara Park) and turn right at the Takama Intersection (first big intersection).
