Pathpoint Cologne Hostel is a well-equipped hostel run by Hostelling International in a great location for exploring Cologne.

The Location

The hostel is located less than a five-minute walk from Cologne's main train station, making it a great option for anyone arriving by train or who wants easy access to nearby cities like Dusseldorf and Bonn. Most of Cologne's attractions are also within walking distance of the hostel, including Cologne's Cathedral, which is right by the station. Cologne's city centre offers many great restaurants and pubs close to the hostel as well as supermarkets if you want to cook your own meals.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Pathpoint Cologne Hostel has both dormitory and private rooms available. Dorm rooms have four to eight beds and are split into male and female only, which is not so handy for couples or mixed genders traveling together. Beds are sturdy and well made, and come with individual reading lights and power sockets. Large lockers are also supplied but you need a euro coin to be able to lock them, and some of the locks are broken. Private twin rooms are also available for people who want more privacy. Rooms don't have air conditioning, which means in hot weather you need to leave the windows or balcony doors open, which can get very noisy due to the location by the train station -- so it's not ideal for light sleepers. Also no elevators are available, so you might have to climb a few floors up.

All rooms have en suite bathrooms with a toilet and shower, which can cause some long waits for the bathroom.

Common Spaces

Part of the hostel was once a Protestant Church, which has now been converted into a large, spacious common area with plenty of tables where you can sit and meet other travelers, as well as a computer corner and pool table. The well-designed, shared kitchen is in the reception building and provides guests with multiple individual stovetops, meaning that many guests can cook at the same time, although useful utensils are a bit lacking, making cooking more difficult. Continental breakfast is available in the morning for an extra fee. In summer there is a great outdoor seating area with a hammock where you can relax in the shade. Free Wi-Fi is available, although it tends to work best on the ground floor. Luggage storage is also available if you need to leave your bag so you can explore the city. The overall vibe of the hostel is fairly young and social, but it's not a party hostel.

Overall, this is a well-thought-out hostel with a good location perfect for any budget traveler that wants a relaxing hostel close to the Cologne Train Station.

Location

• Rail: From Cologne Central Station (Köln Hbf) take exit Breslauer Platz, turn left, then walk 400m. The properties entrance is on the big street 'Turiner Straße', opposite the Savoy Hotel.
• Airport: From Cologne-Bonn Airport take the S-13 train that leaves every 15 min. to Cologne Central Station (Köln Hbf)
• tram: stations 'Dom/Hbf' and 'Breslauer Platz' (U 5, 16, 18) stops are 400 m walking distance, many underground (U-Bahn) and local train (S-Bahn) connections.
• bus: The international bus station is located right next to the central station. From there it is a 5 min walk to the hostel
• Parking: No free parking in the area: our guests can use the free parking at Cologne Riehl Youth Property (3 km, 9 min by underground from central station).
