Get to know Ayutthaya (no more

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, better known as Ayutthaya, is the ancient capital city of Thailand and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a beautiful city where many ruins can be found; it’s a treasure for those who love to explore historical sites. As it was once the most important city of Thailand, Ayutthaya is definitely worth a visit. Visitors can choose to book one of the hostels in Ayutthaya or visit Ayutthaya during a day trip from Bangkok.

The heart of Ayutthaya can be identified as the island in its centre: the piece of land that is surrounded by a river. This island contains the most places worth a visit. A few more temples that visitors may like to visit are located just on the other side of the river. The ruins are the reason why you'd want to visit Ayutthaya. Near the ruins, a few bigger and smaller markets can be found. As most places of interest are located on the island, it can be considered the best place to book a hostel in Ayutthaya.

The island is too big to cover on foot, but bikes can be rented from most hostels as well as locals on the streets for some pocket change. For those who like to see Ayutthaya from a more exotic perspective, elephant rides are available near the historical park.

Most of Ayutthaya’s visitors arrive from Bangkok by either train or bus. Budget travelers should prefer the train since it is the cheaper option. Both choices are very frequent and the journey takes about 2 hours. The railway station is located just across the river from the island and can be easily reached. Hostels can also be found near the railway station.

For tourists who like to relax after a long day, there are several massage parlors where you can get a Thai massage. Most diner options are located near the Chao Prom Market. This is also where most souvenir shops can be found.

There are not many hostels in Ayutthaya. It is therefore advised to check the availability of hostels in advance, as finding a good deal on an Ayutthaya hostel might be difficult on arrival.
