Get to know Trnava (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Trnava.

Trnava is a historic city in western Slovakia, about fifty kilometres from Bratislava. It is the capital of the Trnava region and is often referred to as the "Slovak Rome" because of its numerous churches. Situated on the Trnavka River, the city has been an important market settlement since the Middle Ages. Today Trnava is skipped way too often by international travelers, but those who stop there to stay at a Trnava hostel will find out there is more to this little city than meets the eye.

Since the city lies on a major route, it is easily reachable by train, bus, or car. As soon as you arrive, you will probably notice the town is small enough that most of the main attractions can be checked out on foot. However, there are also decent bus connections throughout the city in case you want to visit the outskirts. When walking through the historic old town of Trnava you won't want to miss the town hall, the town tower, and The Holy Trinity Statue on the main square. If you are interested in churches and architecture, be sure to visit St. Nicholas Basilica, St. John the Baptist Cathedral, St. Anna's Church, and St. Jacob Church. Well worth seeing are also defensive walls of Trnava and The House of Music (home of the important Slovak composer Mikulas Schneider-Trnavsky).

As far as the wallet-friendly accommodations go, there are some, but don't expect too much of your Trnava hostel. After all, Trnava is a relatively small place where you most likely won't be staying more than a day or two anyway.
