Sovata, Romania is a well-known spa town in Romania. It is located in central Romania in Mures County. Cluji is around one-hundred fifty kilometres west of Sovata, and is the nearest city providing international flights. Mostly low-cost airlines operating in Europe use the airport in Cluji. The capital Bucharest is three hundred twenty kilometres south of the spa town. The international airport of the capital offers flight connections to pretty much anywhere in Europe and worldwide. Sovata has a population of roughly ten thousand, and the Gurghiu Mountains are just east of the town; the mountain range is comparatively low and belongs to the Eastern Carpathians. The highest peak is nearly two thousand metres. However, the main attraction are the salt lakes; the largest and best-known salt lake is Bear Lake (in Romanian, Lacul Ursu).

The Gurghiu Mountains (in Romanian, Munții Gurghiu) also offer a couple of slopes for winter-sport enthusiasts. Here, nature lovers can explore an unspoilt, natural landscape with a lot of wood. The wildlife is abundant. For instance, you can find bears, wolves, and wild boars in the mountainous region. The ski resorts in the mountain region boast more than nine kilometres of slopes. The slopes are up to three kilometres long and also suitable for beginners. Do not forget to check out Sighișoara; this Medieval town is around seventy kilometres away and it is is considered to be one of the most beautiful ones in the country. Getting there and getting around by car is the best option.

Sovata is popular tourist destination and therefore you can find numerous accommodations of all kinds. The great majority are hotels; depending on your budget, you can choose from two- to four-star hotels. The size of the accommodations also varies -- smaller, cosy places as well as big hotels are available.
