Get to know Baguio (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Baguio.

Guess what? Baguio is also named and spelled Baguio City - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Baguio City will welcome you to The Cordilleras, where the mountains mark the landscape, in the very north of the Philippines. Once a town perfect for relaxing, nowadays this city has transformed itself into something like most of the Philippines' cities -- unorganized development and permanent traffic congestion. The city is situated more than a thousand meters above the sea level; while it isn't a really nice city to hang around a few days, most travelers find themselves arriving in the city on their way to the mountain province (where many places are still untouched and where ways of living haven't changed that much over a long time). If you arrive here, just get a quick look around the city.

There are a few nice parks to relax and nice cafes to kill some time. If you are not feeling lazy, you can always go to Bunham Park in the center of the city, where you can rent a bike –- a typical one with three wheels -– and go around the Boating Lagoon. Near the east part of the park, you can find Baguio Cathedral, which has an eye-catching style. The city market, full of colours and life, is also worth a visit. If you end up with a little bit more time in the city, head north to the Tam-Awan Village, a replica of a tribal village from the area; it is very nice to learn a bit more about the habits and culture of the Philippines' tribes of this area -– and it is also possible to sleep in the village.

The best way to arrive in Baguio City is by bus, as there is a good network to and from all the main cities in the island. There are only a few hostels in Baguio City, but they are nice places to stay. Baguio City's hostels are also a good place to get more information about exploring The Cordilleras and visit the most amazing rice terraces, not too far away. You can expect good cleanliness conditions and also a good relation between price and quality.
