The entire town is surrounded by a Venetian wall and in some spots the mountain becomes part of the wall. The image that you get when approaching the town is unbelievably beautiful and impressive, giving you a new mental image of the Mediterranean landscape and a new perspective of Montenegro.
Kotor is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Bay of Kotor on the Adriatic Sea allows great views from the wall and the old town. In the old town you cannot miss the walls that give you the feeling that you're back in medieval times, the picturesque houses, and the cathedral of Saint Tryphon. Take sometime in town -- and in the summer, don't miss the aquatic polo competitions or just enjoy the pool right next to the ocean -- you'll find it for sure.
From Budva, you'll find a lot of tours to Kotor, or you can just take a bus to there or go by car, but ensure you go through the historic road that will allow you to have amazing views of Kotor Bay.
There aren't many hostels in Kotor, so be sure that you book in advance so that you don't get any bad surprises when arriving there. Kotor hostels are usually really small places, locally owned, and sometimes are just two or three rooms in the house of a family.
