San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador, as well as the financial, cultural, and social center of the country. The host of many Olympic-level tournaments, San Salvador has much to see; do; and of course, eat. The city offers an impressive list of everything from music concerts, art, sports, architecture, and dining.

As with all big cities, San Salvador hostels range in price and location. They offer something for everyone and an array of prices for all budgets. The amenities in San Salvador are never far, with the impressive public transportation system. The city also offers a large international airport as well as several coach bus and shuttle companies for destinations reaching from Panama to Mexico. Many travelers find El Salvador very accessible due to its use of American currency.

The downtown area boast an impressive amount of buildings in the colonial Spanish style. These are easily enjoyed via guided tours or by just sitting on the patio of a cafe and sipping on an espresso. Like most Central and South American cities, your trip is not complete without visiting the center square and adjacent cathedral.

If something more exciting is your style, San Salvador has the largest soccer stadium in Central America and the Caribbean with a maximum crowd of more than forty-five thousand screaming fans. Celebrate a victory over a cold beer at one of the many bars and clubs of the large nightlife district. Or hope on a quick shuttle to the beach and get ready to catch some mighty Pacific Ocean waves!
