Get to know Copenhagen (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Copenhagen.

Guess what? Copenhagen is also named and spelled København - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Copenhagen is the cultural and financial capital of Denmark and is also home to the Danish Royal Family. It is divided into the city center and several surrounding suburbs.

If you are looking for a Copenhagen hostel, you might want to try finding one in the city center because that is where most of the attractions are situated.

If you do not want to stay in the center of the city, Osterbro and Norrebro are very nice, more residential neighborhoods. Living up to the reputation of Scandinavian countries, Copenhagen hostels are relatively expensive, but you can also expect them to be clean and welcoming with very helpful staff. If you are traveling here in summer, make sure to book well in advance since rooms tend to fill up quickly.

If you end up staying at a city center area Copenhagen hostel, getting around by foot is the way to go. You will find everything within easy walking distance and get to enjoy beautiful buildings and lots of shopping while you're getting to your destinations. Do not forget to stroll along the harbor to meet the famous little mermaid.

If you aren't big on walking, there's a comprehensive public transport system which can take you from your hostel to anywhere in the city that you want. If you have an extra day, take a bus or train across the Oresund bridge to get to neighboring Malmo where you can eat some famous Swedish Kottbulla.
