Bucaramanga, Colombia, is the capital of the department Santander in Colombia. The city is located in the central north of the country and it is home for more than one million people, if you consider the complete metropolitan area. Bucaramanga is quiet wealthy and boasts the lowest unemployment rate in the country. It is a significant commercial hub in the north of country and very important for the trade between Colombia and the neighbouring Venezuela.

Even if the capital of the department Santander is not a big tourist attraction like other Colombian cities, it has a lot to offer for visitors. Bucaramanga has the reputation of a green city. More than one hundred sixty parks are spread out over the urban area. The closest airport is Palonegro International Airport. It is around seven kilometres west of the city centre and offers mainly domestic flights. Alternatively, you can take a bus from bigger cities such as Bogotá or Medellin.
