This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Mezőkövesd.

Mezőkövesd is located in the northeastern side of Hungary, in the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, about fifteen kilometres from Eger. It is a quiet, countryside town where a real peaceful lifestyle and the traditional customs of the Matyó people give the place its unique character. Although until the eighteenth century, Mezőkövesd was a royal estate, the town gained its popularity as a spa resort when in the first half of the twentieth century a thermal spring was found here, which was consequently turned into a public thermal bath. Nowadays, the place is visited by many locals as well as foreign tourists who arrive here longing for some pampering or hope to be healed. The bath boasts outdoor and indoor swimming pools as well as medicinal pools, where the curative properties are due to the sulphur content of the water.

If you hope to experience some of the local culture in between visits to the spa, they will not be disappointed as the place has a lot to offer culturally as well. The Matyó Museum serves as the ethnological museum of the area while the Museum of Agriculture lets you get a glimpse into the way peasants have lived and cultivated the land over the past centuries. Moreover, the Hadas district of the town has a number of Matyó houses on exhibition, which are ideal for experiencing what life back in the nineteenth century used to be like for the residents of the town. The houses can be entered to observe some traditional handicrafts in the making, with the most special ones including the traditional Matyó embroidery making, gingerbread making, and glass cutting.

A stay at a Mezőkövesd hostel is a great choice to be located well within the town and you will find there everything you need for a great visit to this area.
