Kranjska Gora is a town in the northwest part of Slovenia, located close to the borders with Austria and Italy. It is an important tourist spot, perhaps best known for its winter sports culture.
Located in the Zgornjesavska Valley and embraced by the peaks of the Alps and Karavanke Mountains, Kranjska Gora can be only reached by bus -- if you are traveling on public transportation. The best option is probably to take a bus from Jesenice, which is in fact the largest town in the Zgornjesavska Valley, situated around twenty kilometers from Kranjska Gora.
Quickly after your arrival, you will probably notice that most of the tourism is focused on recreation and sports, which is not really that surprising since the city annually holds various professional skiing competitions. Amongst different ski resorts, a very popular tourist spot is the nearby village of Planica (not to be confused with other villages of the same name). The village is best known for ski jumping and having one of the largest ski-jumping hills in the world. It was where the first ski jump in history over one hundred meters (and later over two hundred meters) was achieved.
If you would like to see something less sports-oriented, there are plenty of beautiful waterfalls (Peričnik, Črne Vode, and the Martuljek waterfalls are probably the most famous ones); lovely artificial Lake Jasna; a couple of interesting cultural sights (including the Russian Chapel and Slovenian Alpine Museum); and the magnificent rock face of a maiden, called Ajdovska Deklica, that found its own place in a folk fable.
The accommodation sector in Kranjska Gora mostly consists of hotels and apartments, but you can also find some more affordable options like hostels in Kranjska Gora. If you are, however, unable to get a room in the city, you can look for one in the nearby village of Podkoren.
