Get to know Porongurup (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Porongurup.

Porongurup is located near the Stirling ranges in the South West of Western Australia. The Porongurup National Park is home to a giant karri forest, granite outcrops, amazing views, and some challenging hikes and bushwalks. There are, however, some less challenging bushwalks available, such as the hundred-meter "Tree-in-the-Rock" walk. All bushwalks provide the opportunity for wildlife spotting. The National Park is home to many different native and endemic flora and fauna species, many of which are now endangered.

There are no Porongurup hostels or camping grounds located in the actual National Park, however there are a handful located just outside the entrance to the park. There are also a few popular (and expensive) retreats and lodges located around the Porongurup region. Porongurup hostels provide basic facilities, such as hot-water showers, clean rooms, and comfortable beds. Hostels in Porongurup usually provide the option for private or dorm rooms, with either a shared or private bathroom with shower. There are also usually some communal areas, including outside areas, and sometimes a communal barbecue area. Breakfast usually isn’t included in the price of the room, however there are a few places in Porongurup that serve breakfast.

There are not many restaurant options in and around Porongurup, however the few restaurants that can be found offer a variety of dishes, and cater for vegetarians. Most of these restaurants also offer picnic lunches for visitors to take on their bushwalks. There are no supermarkets, and only limited places to buy food and drink, so if traveling on a budget, bring some supplies with you.
