Get to know Dunsborough (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Dunsborough.

Dunsborough is the brother town to Margaret River; it's not as hippie or crafty but has an excellent location and is usually a top pick for local young people who want to live and work in the area. It is only minutes from wineries and breweries and the town has a few nice restaurants and pubs where you will run into the same locals if you stay long enough. It’s well worth checking out one of the local bars for a “Sunday Session” -- just ask your hostel for suggestions. There is also a famous bakery in town that is definitely worth checking out for a pie or two.

You can see the ocean from one end of town and there is a walking and biking path that stretches all the way from Busselton to Dunsborough. When choosing a hostel in Dunsborough, you can either choose the convenience of being right in the city near the bars and restaurants or being closer to the ocean and outdoor activities. Look for a Dunsborough hostel that offers surfing lessons, group trips to wineries or breweries, and a job board if you are interested in staying longer in the area.

The town is not very large, so everything is within easy driving or walking distance. If you want to venture outside of the city it is most convenient to have a car, since bus service is nearly nonexistent and will only take you to towns rather than the beach or wineries. Some beautiful beaches are only miles away, as well as world-class surfing, excellent fishing, trails to hike, and sun to absorb -- so take your time and enjoy. Dunsborough is a great place to experience small-town Australian life with convenient access to some of the most beautiful places in the country.
