This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Torquay.

Torquay is a town in Victoria, Australia. Situated on the Bass Strait, Torquay is often referred to as the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, the most scenic highway in all of Australia. Torquay has a population of approximately 7,000 people and was founded in late 19th century, first under the name of Spring Creek.

Travelers usually arrive in Torquay via tour buses or rental cars. There are plenty of tour operators around to choose from, and it is highly recommended to do some research and make comparisons before choosing one. Rental cars are always a good option, because of the freedom of travel they provide. It is also a cheap option if you're traveling in a group, because you can share the expenses (daily rate, gas etc.).

Hostels in Torquay are maybe a bit on the expensive side if you look at Australia as a whole, but are average for hostels on the Great Ocean Road and the quality is good. You'll be paying about 25 AUD or a bit more for a dorm bed, and somewhat more for double / twin rooms. It is a good idea to ask the Torquay hostel staff about tips on what to do around town.

The best thing to do when staying at a Torquay hostel is of course: go to the beach. Torquay has arguably the most famous surfing beach in Australia, called Bells Beach. Torquay is also home to many widely known surf brands, such as Rip Curl and Quiksilver. The town area is really nice and makes for a great walk, especially on a sunny summer day.
