Guess what? Lorne is also named and spelled Great Ocean Road - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

A very popular destination on the Great Ocean Road, Lorne is a town in coastal Victoria, Australia. The population of the town is about 1,000 people, and the first settler to the spot arrived in 1849.

The hostels in Lorne are of good quality, and the prices are similar to those of other towns in Victoria, especially the ones along the Great Ocean Road. You'll be looking at about 25 AUD a night for a dorm bed, and a bit more for double / twin rooms. When planning your daily activities, most Lorne hostel staff are great sources of information and it is highly recommended to ask them for tips & tricks.

Most people arrive in Lorne via bus, because it is on the Great Ocean Road and is a well known stopover for tour operators. Buses are actually the only way to get to Lorne, unless you have your own car, because there is no airport or train station. Having a rental is a good option while traveling the Great Ocean Road (and the all of Australia), because you're not subject to anyone's timetables, and can rather travel freely and stop wherever you please.

Most activities when you're staying in a Lorne hostel involve the beach: be it bathing in the sun or the sea, or surfing, you can find it here. The fishing in Lorne is especially good. The town is famous for its catches of big Barracuda. Also remember to check Teddy's Lookout for a nice view of the town and Great Ocean Road. If you're interested in nature, the Great Otway National Park is not far away.
