Get to know Childers (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Childers.

Childers is a fairly quiet inland town, in fairly close proximity to Bundaberg (if you require a beach) and it is also only a few hours' drive from the city of Brisbane. Childers is in a rural setting, surrounded by farmland on all sides, with many different crops being grown in the area. Due to the vast amount of farms in the area, it is possible for backpackers who are here on working holiday visas to get regional work (which can count toward the eighty-eight days required for them to attain their second-year visa).

Although the area itself isn't very large -- there's only one main street, of which pretty much everything is on or just off -- there are still several hostels in Childers. Some of these hostels are working hostels, which find work for those staying in them (the work more often than not is on one of the many local farms). Even though Childers is small, it still manages to contain all the necessities -- several different banks, petrol stations, a post office, a few stores for necessities, as well as a few bars and smaller shops and restaurants. In addition to a few local restaurants of different cuisines, there are also a few chain eateries. There is also a local library, where it is possible to rent DVDs and get free Wi-Fi.

Although there is everything you'll require for day-to-day living, there is not much in the way of entertainment or fun things to do, so if you're staying here (and working), you will probably want to travel and take some day trips to other places on your days off for some fun.
