This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Bundaberg.

Situated in Queensland, Australia, Bundaberg is a city of about 50,000 people. Home to the famous Bundaberg rum distillery, "Bundy" is also known by backpackers who pick up seasonal work there every year in various agriculturally related jobs. Bundaberg is very close to a major sugar cane industry and is surrounded by cane fields.

Bundaberg hostels are plentiful and many backpackers stay in them for a while to work to gain some more travel money before continuing on their trip. In addition, many Bundaberg hostels can help you get work. This is actually the most common way of becoming employed in the area unless you contact the employers directly.

The pricing of Bundaberg hostels can be considered average in Australia, with better rates if you stay for a week or longer (which are often utilized by working backpackers).

Things to do when you're visiting a Bundaberg hostel (in addition to the rum distillery and working) include seeing the Hinkler House Museum (the former home of aviation pioneer, Bert Hinkler, who was born in Bundaberg). There is also a fully restored steam train in the Bundaberg botanical gardens that is worth seeing. Bundaberg is a bit inland (just under 10 miles) so it's a bit of a drive to the seaside.

There is a train station in Bundaberg, but the city doesn't really have much an internal public transport system except for Duffy's Buses, which mostly consists of school buses. It is very advantageous to have a car (or a bike) if you want to get around efficiently.
