Te Anau is the gateway town to the Fiordland World Heritage National Park and our guests are here to either visit one of the fiords or walk a track. Our staff offer expert, advice gained by their participation in many Fiordland activities and walks. If you want to kayak, cruise, heli-hike, 4 wheel motor-bike, day walk or mountain bike they can advise you of the options and book it for you.
If you are here to walk a track we will help you with every tiny detail needed to get you on the trail. If it is the first track you have walked and you are nervous about it we will go over your gear making sure you are fully equipped. While here, you are bound to meet others who have just finished the track or find someone to walk with. You can leave your excess baggage and car here free of charge.
After the track we have a luxury spa with massage jets to soothe those aching trampers' muscles. The hostel has a fully equipped community kitchen and self catering units are also available. Dorms are ensuite and all rooms have heaters. There is lounge for the T.V and video and two other lounges, one with a log fire, 25 disc CD player, piano, guitar, games etc. We have a coin operated laundry and a drying room. There are card and coin phones available.
Email is an essential resource these days and we have 7 coin-operated hi-speed wi-fi terminals.
There are some lovely views of the lake and mountains from our balconies or you can lie in front of the hostel beside the lake to admire the view. Behind the hostel is a BBQ and garden area in which to relax.

Don't Stay here -- they overcharged me by 4 dollars for my room. I booked online 4 months in advance for the cheapest price and paid the deposit online. When I arrived the person on the desk told me the room was full. i had to pay an extra 2 dollars a night. When I got to my room, the people in the room who checked in before me paid the amount I originally was going to pay on my online booking. When I talked to the women on the desk she tried to trick me because I am from France and not a native speaker. She refused to give me the 4 dollars back. The staff are very unfriendly and don't want to help. Only stay here if you want a rude service and to be ripped off. I stayed here December 2012. — Marie, France (2012-12-23)

Very cozy, good for meeting people This hostel was in a beautiful location, right next to the lake. I used it as a base to travel to Milford Sound from. It had a nice fireplace and cozy lounge. I liked it, and met some really nice people! — Rachel, USA (2008-09-03)

Had read quite a few negative reviews about this place and didn't quite know what to expect. We booked a double room with en-suite and ended up in our own little cottage with free towels and a TV. We were very happy with our cottage, very nice and clean and for the price we paid it was a steal. The only negative about this hostel is that the kitchen next to us (there is a bigger kitchen in the main house) was very basic, just one stove, and not that many utensils. Considering the price we paid and what we got for it I would stay here again if I'm in the area in the future. — Amaru, Swedish (2007-04-19)
I've stayed here over the years starting in 1996 and will no longer stay there. It hasn't changed in years, literally, same kitchen, same furniture, same everything. It's starting to look tired. When they charged $11 for a bed, it was ok, but not for the price they charge now. If you end up here, it won't be the end of the world, but there are other options in town that are a better value. — Mike Brown (2006-09-25)
The one and only good thing I can say about this place is about where it is situated: not too far to walk to the shops. Other than that, it's very expensive. — Anonymous (2005-02-28)
