The Crossing Backpackers is a relaxed, comfortable and friendly place to stay. The lodge is set amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in New Zealand but located close to the main highway so easy to find.
This is an amazing part of the country to explore, and an ideal place to stay if you are here to take part in the many adventure activities for which the Tongariro National Park is famous. Activities include tramping, climbing, mountaineering, fishing, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, horse trekking and of course, the world famous Tongariro Crossing.
We provide backpacker-style accommodation for up to 145 people, as individuals or groups, for guests of all ages. The rooms are furnished with bunks and some with double beds. Motel-style units are also available.
But The Crossing Backpackers is not just a place to sleep! We have a huge property here and many activities can be organised on-site. Anything to keep you entertained! If you are looking for an intrepid journey within NZ, there really is no better place to go
