The "hostel" consists of two busses that have been converted to nice living spaces in a banana patch with gardens all around. Also there is a cottage with a loft bed and a porch area with a day bed. All are covered with mosquito nets. The kitchen area is on the side of the cottage and is used by the guests only. The kitchen in my house is used for preparation of meals for those doing a work exchange or pay for meals. We have lots of fruit available and produce from the garden as well for the guests who are willing to go pick it. The only toilet is in the house and is open always. The hot shower is outside. We are in the process of making an additional toilet for the guests and a better, prettier shower area in the banana patch.
The location is good being close to Pahoa (3 miles), the steam vent (natural sauna)(1.5 miles), Kehena black sand beach (9 miles)(suits optional),Pohoiki beach and Ahalanui warm pond (6 miles).
The ambiance is very casual, family oriented including 5 year old Mahina and Ringo the dog who treat everyone like another relative. We like it and so will you.
We will screen you and ask you some questions and may ask for references so we don't get any oddballs and wierdo types that would make other guests uncomfortable. Aloha nui loa, Pahoa Hostel
