We are Dragon Town Youth Hostel in Chengdu China. It is a membership of the IYHF (International Youth Hostel Federation). At
the hub of South West China lies the capital of Sichuan province, Chengdu. Chengdu has a history of more than 2300 years. As a
city with many faces, Chengdu caters to all types of travelers; weather en route to Tibet, looking for a modern civilized break
from the hardships of rural China, in search of a relaxing comfortable getaway, or seeking insight into Chinese long history,
cultural extravagance, or awing traditional medicine institutions. Despite its modern and vibrant shopping streets, night
scene, and modern conveniences, Chengdu has a long history with many traces still remaining. Traditional Chinese architecture
that once dominated the city can still be found scattered throughout the streets. It is among these areas where one is ejected
from the busy city into a place where time has crept along ever so slowly leaving its mark through the many years of
development and reconstruction.
Dragon Town is surrounded by architecture dating back over 450 years. The building itself, taking advantage of the comfort of
a newer structure, was built 12 years ago in traditional, late Ming - early Qing dynasty architecture. All this lies in central
Chengdu, just a 20 minute walk from the center. To the West, a vibrant night market, to the East, a variety of modern
department stores and newly renovated shopping streets. A 5-minute walk to the South takes you to the peoples park where one
can enjoy the peaceful teahouse. To the North lies Wenshu monastery, a traditional Buddhist temple, one of the four largest in
all of Sichuan province. Whatever ones motive in traveling to Chengdu, one can experience something different than the typical
Chinese city.
