When you arrive at Muntri House, it is like stepping back in time. The huge mansion is a brilliant example of Colonial history and wherever you look inside, you will discover noteworthy artifacts and stunning decorations celebrating the city’s rich past. The comfortable dorm and free breakfast are just the cherry on the top.

The Location

Muntri House is located in the middle of the historic centre of Georgetown, just off Jalan Penang. It is in the middle of the area known for its street art and only a few minutes' walk from most of the attractions of the city, like St. George's Church and the Clan Jetties. Little India, with its amazing selection of food, is right on its doorstep as well. However, if you want to venture a little bit further, you can also take the free bus to various points in the city that stops only a few hundred metres from the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Muntri House offers both private and dorm rooms as well as female-only options. The dorms have cosy bunk beds, and the kind receptionist will try to arrange for you to be able to stay on the bottom bunk. There is plenty of space to unpack your bag and you will get a locker to store your belongings. The rooms are air conditioned. The bathrooms are a bit small and it is hard to find a place to hang your clothes, but they are clean. However, there could be more of them to cater to all the people staying.

Common Spaces

The best place to relax is the long hall with authentic furniture from the era the house was built. Here, you can serve yourself to free tea, coffee, and biscuits and enjoy a book from the shelves. You can also enjoy a guest computer as well as some hanging chairs and plant corners around the premises. However, amongst all the sophisticated décor, some sofas or beanbags are largely missing. As the doors are kept locked during the night, you will get a key card to let yourself in. Free breakfast is included in the price, even if it is only bread and jam.
