Parrots Dive Center Lodging is in Utila right on Main Street, just on the left from the harbour. Like most of the hostels in Utila, it offers diving classes as well and it is possible to get the PADI certificate.
The Location
As mentioned, it is right on Main Street, next to one of the most famous bars/clubs in Utila. It has access to the water and rooms are in both sides of the street. It is only a five-minute walk from the harbour and a fifteen-minute tuk tuk to the airport. Around the hostel there are many cheap places to eat and have some local food.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel itself is not well maintained and has many small rooms for four people on bunk beds. Rooms are very poor and dirty; mattresses are also dirty and smelly, and it doesn’t feel really comfortable to sleep there. There are no lockers, so people can’t lock their valuables and it is a bit of a risk. Toilets are shared by each floor and they are really dirty and very small.
Common Spaces
There is a reception and a relax area with a table and some chairs. Right next to the water, there is a nice area with hammocks and chairs where you can relax and have some drinks. The hostel has a kitchen free for use, but it is very small and very dirty. It smells bad and nobody seems to take care of it. The atmosphere in the hostel is somehow lacking. On the one hand, it is in a perfect location for those who want to party as it is right next to the main club in Utila. However, on the other hand, inside the hostel itself it is very hard to get to know other people, as the vibe is too quiet and there isn’t any kind of activity arranged to meet other travelers.
Summary
This hostel is cheap, and customers get what they pay for, or a bit less. Cleanliness is missing and staff don’t seem to take care about that. Spiders and bugs are inside and outside the rooms, so if you don’t feel comfortable having many insects in the room and in the toilet, this place is not recommended.
