Paradise Beach Backpackers Hostel Reviews

Paradise Beach Hostel gets a ten out of ten for hostel views.

The Location

Ischia is a beautiful Island and everyone should visit. The hostel is located in an easily accessible spot and they email you exact, easy-to-follow instructions on how to reach them from the mainland right to their door via email once you have booked. Just look out for the sign, as it may be pretty well covered by overgrown trees.
The Island is easily accessible, with the buses running regularly, although they're on Italian island time, so that mean whenever they like, but they go both ways just a couple of metres from the hostel. So you can get to most parts of the Island easily. There are plenty of restaurants, a bakery, and supermarkets nearby.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The whole hostel just seems a little rundown, outdated, and grimy, as though ten years ago it was the place to be, became one of Europe's famous hostels, and no one has replaced anything or cared about it since. The rooms are spacious and there are lockers to lock away valuables but they're not big enough for entire bags. The beds are very uncomfortable and springy, but the sheets are clean though. The room gets very hot at night meaning the window must be left open, which allows all the insects to enter. The bathroom is spacious, but the shower/bath is far from clean, fitting with most of the hostel.

Common Spaces

The hostel has a huge amount of social attraction -- in the peak season when the place is packed, the hostel will run group meals and the bar is up and running every night. There is a huge, open dining room, and outside seating again outdated, but at least it gives you somewhere to sit to watch one of the most amazing hostel sunsets going around. There is a pool, which is absolutely the best thing to escape the Italian heat, although it is also chasing a good clean. There is a decent book exchange with plenty of options as well as card and board games to keep you entertained.

The hostel has a huge, industrial style kitchen, which is great for the budget travelers, but it lacks some of the basics of a good hostel kitchen (like oil and bowls). The staff, although friendly enough and full of information when asked, simply seem disinterested by being there. As mentioned several times when booking, there are three dogs around, which is awesome and who doesn't love a hostel pet; that said, the lack of cleaning means dog hair is prominent everywhere.

Summary

It is a very unique hostel with lots of appeal; while other hostels have a full pool and those unreal sunset views, it just needs some love and attention and a good old clean.

Description

Chilling-out is an art-form at Paradise Beach Backpackers Hostel.

The first authentic island beach backpackers in the magnificent Gulf of Naples, we're perched on the 'the most beautiful thermal island in the world', overlooking Capri, Mt Vesuvius, and the Sorrento Peninsular. The first real experience you'll find in your Italian travels - real friends, real activities, real views, real reviews, real atmosphere, real fun!

All our rooms look out over the sea towards distant islands in west, with the summer sun shining on us for 16 hours a day! When you arrive you'll get spotless linen, a secure place for your possessions, an energy-packed breakfast, a cosy bed, clean bathrooms, sassy social socialising spots, help with your bookings and travel plans. This island's just amazing, but our reputation is built on our attention to you and your holiday and the cool time you're gonna have.

Sit by the pool and listen to the music, meet friends, go down to the beach, and try the delicious island foods and wines. Ischia has miles of coast and has been doing tourism for 8,000 years. The Romans sunbathed here; the Spanish bathed, the Greeks and French did Greek and French things. You will do what they did. And, we have free wifi, as well.

Sip bubbly in hot springs, bbq on the beach, and enjoy the best bruschetta and wine in Italy at the top of the island, at a hidden, cheap, local restaurant.

We're 40 minutes by boat from Naples, and you can get to us easily (and cheaply) from Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri, Pozzulli, Procida and Rome.

And then, sitting with friends, a cocktail and a bbq, watching the sun dip into the Mediterranean, you'll appreciate this irony... at Paradise Beach Backpackers, the sun never truly sets!

So, what are you waiting for??? Book your sunset here today!

Location and Contact

Location

• TO NAPLES (NAPOLI) – trains leave from Rome every half hour and, depending on how much you spend, it takes between 1 and 4 hours. For about 20 € there's an easy 2-hour train, and the ones for roughly 10 € leave 4 times daily.
• By plane, you can fly directly to Naples from just about anywhere in the world. And it's much cooler than Rome.
• FROM THE MAINLAND – catch a boat across the spectacular Gulf from Naples, Pozzulli, Sorrrento, Procida, Salerno, Positano, Amalfi or Capri and sail to Forio (which is then only 10 minutes by bus from our door), or to Casamicciola (about 20 minutes) or Ischia Porto (30 minutes). From Sorrento and Capri, the fast boats (aliscafi) leave from the Marina Piccola and, like the ones from Salerno, Amalfi and Positano, they operate from mid-Spring to mid-Autumn.
• FROM NAPOLI CENTRALE RAILWAY STATION – cross the big piazza out the front, passing the eternal Metro construction site, and catch Tram '1' going left (when looking away from the station) to the last stop. On the port side is Molo Beverello where the fast boats (aliscafi) depart for Forio.
• TO THE CHEAPER BOATS – from Beverello to Casamicciola or Ischia Porto, go behind the cafes, away from the fast boat terminal, and catch the free, blue shuttle bus to Calata Porto Di Massa (about 5 minutes away)...
• On the island…
• BUSES FROM ALL PORTS – catch the buses numbered 'CS' or '1', going left (when you are facing the sea). The bus stops are outside the port area on the same side of the street as the port, except at Ischia Porto. At Ischia Porto you must walk around the port to the main bus stop (la capolinea).
• It’s easy to find us. After you leave Forio – all the buses go via Forio –
• 1 LOOK for the big sign saying “SORRISO” on the right of the bus (5-10 minutes out of Forio. When you see it, wait until you...
• 2 GO AROUND THE CORNER, then press the bell…
• 3 GET OFF at the next stop and look behind the bus. You’ll see our sign saying “BACKPACKERS”. Walk down our path there.
