Kenepuru Sound

"Stunning - I did not want to leave. When we arrived we were greeted with tea and muffins (freshly out of the oven) with the owners. They did free mussels for everybody every few nights. The rooms were immaculate and incredibly comfortable. Everywhere (windows and floors) were cleaned daily and there wasn't a bit of dust/dirt anywhere. Best kitchen I've seen. Queen Charlotte Sound

"Furneaux Lodge, in Marlborough Sound, is only accessible by foot along the Queen Charlotte Track, or by boat (water taxi). The lodge itself is quite nice, with a good restaurant and full bar (a rarity in the sounds). However, backpackers are clearly second class citizens here, and are relegated to The Croft, a old stone building away from the main lodge.
