"Wow what a awesome hostel great location and wonderful views of the city. Camped for the first three days and then when my boyfriend came we stayed in a double room. Guy at the desk was very helpful with information on what was on in the city and it was so easy to walk into town supermarket a bit expensive but very handy. We bought a van from a fellow backpacker at hostel and so the free parking was good. Kitchen small but had the basics.... more »

"I only stayed here because there were no other beds available in Wellington at the time, and I moved out as soon as possible. The staff were not friendly, the kitchen was locked at night till 7am (which sucks if you have to leave early), and the overall atmosphere was dull and lifeless. The other guests were generally friendly, but the rooms were kinda crappy and the bathrooms dirty. Not the worst place I ever stayed, but definitely lacking... more »

"Loved the atmosphere!! I stayed about seven months at one point. It was a great place to stay in Wellington, and Allen is unique. He had a couple of dogs when I was there Bessy and ??, which we used to take walking on Mt. Victoria. Breakfasts were always great with ginger tea and cheese toasties cooked outside with love hearts cut out in the middle. I have fond memories of a very interesting time. I wonder how Allen is doing. "One of a kind! - I worked at Beethoven House for two months whilst traveling through New Zealand, and can say I have the happiest memories of this place. It's not like other hostels (one of the reasons I stayed there!), it's a bit dingy, sometimes a little dirty (not so much when I worked there!) and yes -- a bit strange. I loved it!
