Stepping off a ferry from Spain into Tangier's port can be a daunting experience, but once you get past the touts offering to "guide" you to your Tangier hostel and people trying to sell you everything from rugs to candy, it can be a pleasant and spectacular place if you give it a chance. Well connected to everywhere in Morocco by bus train and plane as well as internationally by ferry and plane, Tangier is often a destination that people get in and out of without taking time to actually explore it.
With a very lively Medina (old town) and markets plus many beautiful mosques and a long stretch of sandy beach right in the centre, Tangier can be a great city to spend a few days. Hotels and hostels in Tangier range from the super-low budget to the very fancy, so you can always find something for you in Tangier. Tangier hostels are usually within walking distance of the ferry terminal and slightly longer walk from the train and bus station. If you hostel is in the Medina (walled old town) then you can take a taxi to the closest entrance and then walk to your Tangier hostel, as cars aren't allowed within the narrow walled streets of the Medina. Most Hostels in Tangier offer dorms and private rooms; some come with breakfast and free Wi-Fi and most usually offer free maps to help you get around and find your way back to the hostel!
