"Wonderful establishment with nice surroundings. It has big, clean rooms with good facilities. In the morning, you can even hear the "birds' ensemble" from the wood right next to the hostel. There are free big, locked closets inside the room, and a normal breakfast buffet in a quite nice canteen. Though the choices were limited, the food was sufficient. Beware of the check-in time, as the...

"Institute St. Sebastian is a large hostel that is practical and has many features. It has a great location -- only a fifteen- to twenty-minute walk from the train station. Alternatively you can take a bus toward the old town and get off before crossing the river. From Linzer Gasse, go through the gate marked Feuerwache Bruderhof. From the airport you can stay on bus 2. It is only a further...
"Hostel Naturfreundehaus is an absolute gem! With unbeatable views of the entire city, included breakfast and an adorable setting, there is no better place to stay in Salzburg on a budget! The hostel is on top of a fully functioning restaurant...

"This youth hostel was pretty good. We may have been upgraded from a twin to a triple, so the room seemed nice, quiet, clean and big for just two of us, given it even had a table and chairs and lockers within the room. Breakfast was also decent, and included in the price, which is always a good thing. The main thing I didn't like was that check-out time was 9 a.m., so, leaving Salzburg at 1...

Check out the classical concerts that local college students put on in the Gold Room in the main palace. And it's a free concert to boot!

I went to Salzburg on the fly because I couldn't find a room in Munich during Oktoberfest -- what a great escape.

Salzburg is so charming, especially the Mirabell Gardens and Schloss Hellbrun -- places mentioned in "The Sound of Music." I loved Mozart Square and its friendly helpful people and would love to visit it a second time.

Salzburg is an amazing, cultural, historical city set in the most breathtaking scenery with places to visit suiting a broad variety of tastes. Top of my list was the Eagles Nest tour just over the border in Germany. Built for a fiftieth birthday present for one of Austria's least popular statesmen, Adolf Hitler, it's a breathtaking feat of engineering and a truly eerie experience, considering the facilities perched on top of a mountain were enjoyed by some of the Nazi party's worst villains and other nations' key statesmen whilst they were in power. Conquered by the Allied forces in 1945, it survived being demolished as a memory of the Nazis by the appeals of locals and the sheer magnitude of the work that went into building it -- apparently Eisenhower kept an ornamental door knocker as a memento after visiting. Whilst the salt mine tour sounds particularly dull, on the contrary it is a real adventure where you descend by slides into the mines -- much recommended. I thought nightlife was good at the weekend good even if it is a little expensive -- full of beautiful people and some more traditional beer halls -- especially if you fake being reporters for a snowboard magazine.

Salzburg is like a dream world. The tiny compact streets and the endless playing of fantastic music fills you with warmth and pleasure. Mirabels garden is just amazing while the castle takes your breathe away. Salzburg is expensive however. Just to get into the castle via a cart costs around 15 euro each - far too much for us backpackers! The food is good though and the atmosphere friendly. A perfect location for a romantic weekend break.

I really enjoyed Salzburg. Beautiful old buildings and the Sound of Music history, all good fun. It's nice and compact, easily enjoyable on foot. I enjoyed it much more than Vienna. Try out the brewery, top beer and food!

For some reason, Salzburg is quite possibly my favorite place in all of Europe. When I was there last I remember just thinking "Damn this is so....so European!" ha ha. Last time we saw a lot and spend two nights and two full days, but I'm going back this summer and spending three nights and two and a half days. The winding streets, gardens, fortress- it's all so amazing. Definitely worth going to!

Salzburg is a very pretty town, much livelier than Vienna for my money (but less museums). Music on the streets all the time plus outdoor concerts and operas. In the old town things can get expensive thanks to all the tourists, so try the other side of the river. Nightlife here is not really up to par either. And don't forget to see the Ice Caves!
