Get to know Kitzbühel (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Kitzbühel.

Guess what? Kitzbühel is also named and spelled Kitzbuehel - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Kitzbühel, situated in the skirts of the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbühel Horn is one of the most important winter sport centers in Austria. Together with the ski facilities in Kirchberg, Jochberg, and the Thurn Pass, Kitzbühel forms one of the biggest ski resorts in Austria. With approximately ten thousand hotel beds, Kitzbühel and its neighboring villages can become quite densely populated in the high season.

There are fifty-six cable lifts (open and closed) and one hundred sixty-eight kilometers of ski slopes at the ski resort in Kitzbühel, not to mention that there are additionally forty kilometers for cross-country skiers. In the summer, there are one hundred twenty kilometers for mountain biking and five hundred kilometers for “hiking boots” that wait to be explored.

The other attractions include the six tennis courts and four golf courses, the Kitzbühel swimming pool, the only curling hall in Austria and the Schwarzsee, a small lake not far from Kitzbühel and a favorite place for tanning and swimming for locals and tourists.

Before you head to Kitzbühel, you need to know that it is not a typical backpacker destination. On the contrary, the resort attracts tourists in the high-price segment, as many celebrities and former and current ski stars come often to the Hahnenkamm to race with other visitors. Kitzbühel has also prepared famous winter athletes such as Toni Sailer, Ernst Hinterseer, Christl Haas, and many other champions. This inevitably increases the prices and most Kitzbühel hostels are quite expensive and not affordable for many backpackers. On the other side, if you are a ski fan, you can significantly help your budget if you take a hostel in Kitzbühel, as hotels are even more expensive. The hostels in Kitzbühel have great facilities, a perfect location, and you will not need more than ten minutes on foot to reach the slopes.
