"Central City Backpackers - Hobart is a good hostel -- it's what you expect, but not much more. We cannot say enough how helpful the staff are and how easy the late check-in is. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and they asked us what we were doing that day and had very good recommendations for food and for places to visit. There's also a lot of information and maps for planning your trip there, so if you travel unprepared like we do, you won't be out of luck! "Allport's Hostel is not close to town. It takes about twenty to thirty minutes to walk from the hostel to town. But it is situated in a area where the night life is good, and there are lots of cafes and restaurants. This building is very old, and looks rundown from the outside. They have extended it by adding a new section to the back with kitchen, bathrooms, and lounge area. "Montgomery's (Monty's) is a great hostel! The location couldn't be any better. It is one block from the Elizabeth Street Pier, which has a gorgeous harbor full of amazing ships and great fish and chip eateries. Monty's is about a four-minute walk from the famous Salamanaca Market on Saturdays. It is one block away from a major bus stop where many local bus routes stop. "Great hospitality and cosy atmosphere - Stayed at Narrara overnight, in summary was very impressed by the owner Mo's kind hospitality. He assisted us in every possible way he could and more. "The Hollydean Lodge has seen better days. It is basically clean but is very old fashioned and in need of renovation which appears to be underway. It is a large building with plenty of space with a large kitchen and dining area and a few TV lounges. The double rooms are small and basic. The rooms at the front of the building can be a bit noisy as the road is busy and the sound of the pedestrian crossing can drive you mad! But this is offset by the good location.
