Christiania is absolutely sh*t. If you are not drug addicted avoid going there. Go to Nationalmuseet instead. It's free and definitely one of the best museums ever seen around the world. Supermarkets are not more expensive than in Italy. Two complete days are more than enough for
I have been in
for five months. It was the best days of my life. I want to go there again!
I went to
two summers ago travelling with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Band (a camp located in MI, US) and it was so wonderful! I loved the view off the coast at the northern-most tip. All in all, I had a wonderful time and spending a summer there sounds like a great idea.
is not the sleepy village it was twenty years ago. The grain storage building is gone now and the harbor area has a few more restaurants. The large open surface where fishermen used to repair their nets has not changed much. I can imagine my grandfather there as a boy, helping his father bring in the catch and carting it home, ready for the family women and elders to smoke the herring the next day. The Gudhjem train station history and art museum is absolutely precious. The modern art museum just north of Gudhjem is another local treasure. I love the architecture, the simplicity of the long building as it steps its way down the slope to the sea, with a trickle of water running from floor to floor and down each stairway. How wonderful it must be to sail from Sweden to Gudhjem, tie up in the harbor, and adjourn for a pleasant lunch with wine before turning in for the night. I liked the thought of walking on cobblestone streets my grandfather walked on as a boy, and now my son…
This is one of the coolest cities in Europe. People can sometimes seem to be a little bit cold, but Danes are great if just take some time, drink some beers. Christiania is nice, even if you don't smoke weed!
is best during summer though!
is a pretty little city with very friendly Danes. They all speak English and are happy to do so, unlike some other places I've visited. The Hans Christian Anderson museum is pretty interesting. You won't learn much about the fairy tales, but you'll get a feel for the man himself. He was pretty amazing! The streets of Odense are beautifully maintained. Watch out for bikes, there are thousands! Walk or bike alongside the river in summertime, it's beautiful! In August Odense hosts the 'Odense International Film Festival'. Most films are either in English, or have subtitles. And it's FREE! In a nutshell, I found Odense well worth the visit.
