is one of my favourite spots in Oz. My tip is to mingle with the locals and they will show you the best time ever coz they are the friendliest bunch of Ozzies I ever met.
is a fantastic city! We loved our stay here. Brisbane was fabulous - South Bank (wow!) the river (wow) and great feel for a city. We saw some great AFl with the Brisbane Lions too!
is great, its only minutes to Surfers and has some great things to do as it is on the beach with its surf clubs. And the casino is always great with Thursday night -- cheap drinks in the casino's Prince Albert Bar. It's where a lot of the young loacals go.
We spent a great month in
a couple of years ago (as part of a 3 month journey around SW Australia). We started in a caravan (which was great), and we migrated to a rented a house from an estate agency and extended our visit for another three weeks. We were most impressed by the friendly and welcoming attitude of the locals which included joining a cape to cape walking tour, a visit to the local island, and walking around the estuary and headlands. We would recommend Augusta as a peaceful, scenic, and friendly destination.
is AmAzInG. The Ningaloo Reef is located in The Cape Range National Park far far far away from town, but the good news is that The Ningaloo Reef Retreat does a shuttle bus there. I don't want to tell you my favourite spot as I share it with the likes of my middle brother and my best mate, but here's some food for thought. Ever seen a moon rise? How about a moon set over the ocean? If you've got your own wheels this place is the money. You'll need camping gear including a gas cooker as you are not allowed to make a fire in the National Park, a 20 litre container for fresh water, which you can fill at Neds Camp in the park and supplies purchased from Exmouth. Take out about $100 from the bank in Exmouth as the Lighthouse Caravan Park doesn't accept cards, but you can buy take-away food, petrol, and a shower from them. The caravan park is about the mid point between Exmouth and the best places to camp and snorkel, make sure you leave Exmouth with a full tank of gas, if you camp…
The biggest attraction to
is the area of Monkey Mia, which is known for its friendly dophins. Denham is also in Shark Bay and it's the nearest town to Monkey Mia (at about 25 Km away).
Sandy Creek Conservation Park is not accessible to the
Wineries if you don't have a car.
is a great place to do fruit picking as it is so close to the beach, has lovely weather, plenty of charity shops, and great drinking holes!
is a very small town on the edge of water and next to a nature reserve. This is for the nature and ocean lover, and not a party and happening place like a big city. The Freycinet National Park has lots of hikes and nature and beaches to explore. Don't miss the hike to Wine Glass Bay, and even though the climb to the look out is uphill all the way and has lots of tourists, it is still worthwhile. But do ask for a list and map of other hikes in the area.
is the most beautiful place I may have ever been on Earth! The main street has mountians on one side and a simple, untouched beach on the other! It is in "croc country", so no swimming, but the view is enough to fall in love with Cardwell!! There are cute cafes and wonderful locals. The local Catholic Church is still one of my favorites! Hitchinbrook Island is also another natural beauty in Cardwell. You can take a boat over on Sundays for half price. All in all, Cardwell is a must visit!
The two bakeries in town both claim to be "The Original
Bakery." My money goes to the one near the park as it has a shadehouse eatery which is nice to sit in and look at your maps while chowing down. Here's my big tip: buy a big round wholemeal roll (better for you) and stick your pie in it :-) with sauce. This goes further, tastes better and no hot dripping split pie oozing drama.
is a place you'll either love or hate. I loved it. It was my home for only 3 months but will always be a part of me.
is a happening place, with old buildings, tourists, and locals. It has the usual city feel to it, and is lovely to walk around in. Salamanca place is a must. Hiding behind other buildings this is an outdoor area with restaurants and some shops and a big pond. On Friday nights there is the live music by locals in another hidden away courtyard. Here they start early (at about 4 p.m. to about 7:30 p.m.) and they sell some drinks, while you can listen to the local band and even enjoy dancing on the dancing floor if you like.
I am from
and think it's one of the most beautiful places I've lived. It's humble and a place to relax and take in all the amazing scenery. So close to the sea, the vineyards, and the marvels of the volcanoes.
is a great little beach town. Its away from the hussle and bussle of other tourist areas so one can actually enjoy the place they are at.
is disgusting. Don't even bother coming here. There are far better places to visit in the region.
For the three days I was in
I realized it's truly beautiful. I suggest that that everyone go snorkeling and/or scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
Visting independently? It'll cost you $35 to get the Uluru Express to
. Get the sunset tour with combined walk, it's the same price as the sunset tour alone. The Olgas are $50, the gorge walk is quite disappointing though. Don't forget you need to add $25 to all this for the park three-day pass. Bring a mosquito net -- flies will drive you mad.
I have fantastic memories of
and would go back. I loved the hillbilly feel of the town. Beats the cities any day. Work is hard but well worth the experience.
is a safe town to walk and explore. Non-touristy and friendly locals.
