The Midland Youth Hostel is a quality place. Despite its location above the Heaven Night Club, which is really a strip club, the area doesn't seem seedy, dangerous, or loud.
The Location
The hostel isn't too hard to find. It is located very centrally and is within walking distance of the old town and an easy bus ride from the train station. When you arrive at the building, go into the courtyard and walk up the stairs to your left above the Heaven Night Club. In a somewhat harshly busy capital, going into the hostel really does seem like you are entering somewhere above heaven. Also, the lovers' park is nearby for another break from the endless cement. Located downstairs is a twenty-four-hour cafe. Outside, under the hostel is a branch of the Banca Transylvania with a twenty-four-hour cash machine. Two doors down there is a twenty-four-hour kiosk selling beverages, snacks, and publications among other things. Additionally there are many good clubs and bars in the area. Be sure to ask for directions to the bar on roof of the National Theater.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel is small enough that there are no room locks. Lockers and locks are provided to everyone. The dorms are big but have nice bunk beds and air conditioning. There is only one bathroom but it has large sliding doors around both of the toilets and both of the showers. Everything in the bathroom is clean and new.
Common Spaces
The kitchen serves as a common room for meeting people. The kitchen is newly furnished in IKEA style. It has a stove, water cooker, sandwich toaster, fridge, plasma TV, LCD projection screen for watching DVDs, a DVD collection, a washer and dryer that may be used for a small fee, two couches, a small dinner table, and a laptop with free internet. While hostelers drink in one of the dorm rooms, the people who want to sleep say that they were able to do so easily in the other room. The hostel attracts assorted people and the atmosphere is very friendly and social.
Summary
This hostel is amazing. From the free maps and the staff advice to the bright new decorating complimenting the ornate antique tile heaters to the refreshing air conditioning, this place is designed to make the traveler feel comfortable.
