I stayed here for 5 nights during Christmas '04 and New Year '05. Due to our original hostel in central Sydney screwing up our booking, we had to find an alternative. Although this was back in the October, finding anywhere in Sydney over Xmas was a nightmare but we finally found beds at the Triple A. It cost AUS$66 each per night (£26) for the honour of being in a small eight-bed dorm. The good news was that Kings Cross is not quite as bad as reported although it is still pretty seedy at night. The receptionist was helpful, there was a fairly sociable atmosphere to the place and it was pretty easy getting back into central Sydney or out to Bondi but there was numerous negative factors. Our dorm had an adjoining bathroom but the toilet didn't flush properly so had to tip bowls of water down it instead. The water from the shower was tepid at best, the payphone and vending machines both didn't work and the door to our room was sometimes practically impossible to open. Also, when we ran out of toilet paper we had to buy replacements ourselves. Cleanliness was not an overriding factor but the large kitchen and common area between the dorms on each level encouraged socialising. Certainly not for all tastes, don't come here if you're used to better things but you could do worse... just.
