The only things that this hostel has going for them are the location and the people. The hostel is around the corner from Earl's Court station and there are fantastic, cheap restaurants (like Masala Zone -- excellent!), a M&S Simply Food, and a twenty-four-hour Tesco all nearby. The staff are super friendly and very helpful, and most of the people who stay there are friendly too. However, the rooms are tiny and dirty, the beds old and springy, the sheets smell funny, and the bathrooms are moldy as hell. Really disgusting. If you don't care where you lay your head and are looking to save pounds, then this may not matter to you, but if you're a couple trying to go budget, it's worth the extra 10 to 20 pounds to find someplace cleaner. Also note that they advertise on many online reservation systems that they have a double room (which to most other hotels/hostels means a double -- or queen/king -- sized bed, meant to be shared by two people). But to them, a double room means two twin sized beds. Be warned. If you're a lone traveler looking for good cheap hostel accommodations, go elsewhere. It's worth your time and money to find something better than this place.

We have just stayed for five nights. Place where Nevern Hostel is is excellent, just very close to tube station and relatively quiet, but rooms are dirty and "before reconstruction." But I agree that "what will pay, you'll get." It cost only pounds sixteen per night, I recomend this hostel to everyone who wants to visit London and save money.

I stayed at Nevern Hostel in 1999, 2000, 2003 and plan to go again this year, 2005. If you are looking for a safe, no extra frills, WYPIWYG [what you pay is what you get], quiet and friendly hostel then this is the place. I never had a problem here. I've been coming and going any time of the day or night without any hitch. Highly recommended if you are on a budget vacation or work trip. I even asked and got the same room every time. Very satisfied!

Well, I just returned from the hostel yesterday after having stayed there for about a week. The location is really good, just right beside the main road at Earl's Court, the tube and a big 24h opened Tesco and many cheap restaurants. Many of the people in the Nevern have already been there for some time so they are a community and to get to know them you have to socialize, be open, and they will be nice to you. The staff is also very friendly and there's a kitchen for everybody's use where personal food, etc. can be stored in 4 fridges. I haven't tried the breakfast though as it's only from 6-9 a.m. but there is free tea and coffee all day long and a tv room. I stayed in a twin bedroom which wasn't very spacious but it was okay. The room was not dirty and there were clean sheets, although the blankets were surely not the newest. We had a sink and a big mirror and although we had to share a toilet and shower with many others (calculate waiting time!), the bathroom was also okay and cleaning people come every day. After 3 days you really get into the swing of the Nevern and really start to feel homey. There are mainly Autralians staying at the hostel and they are kinda hard to understand if you're not used to the accent but they are relaxed and fun. The hostel is open 24 hours so you can stay out as long as you want and even though checkout is at 10 a.m., you can leave your luggage at the hostel if you're planning to depart later and you can still use all facilities. You can also deposit any valuables in a safe at the reception, but for us, there was no need to do so and nothing has ever gone missing. I went to Nevern with my friend because it was the cheapest hostel we could find on the internet as we are students and therefore not the richest but it was absolutely acceptable and I will keep the address in mind for the next time I need a cheap stay in London. I have to add that I am usually used to really high-class hotels when I travel with my family but this was backpacker-style and although I am really fussy I had fun and would go there again!

I had a great time at the Nevern hostel. It is exactly that, though, a hostel. You get what you pay for, which is fair enough. The people are great and it is relatively clean (for a hostel) and it is a bed for the night! Once you get into the swing of things there, you're in a great, great position, too.

Honestly, I love the Nevern. But you have to know what you're getting. It's a hostel, not a hotel. The people are always willing to socialize with you, but you have to socialize with them. It really takes three days to get into the swing of the Nevern. After four days you just won't want to leave! It's a bit dirty, but they kind of try. The breakfast is a bit lacking, but there is some. You just pick your shower and toilet; there are tons. It's better than the many other hostels in the area of Earls Court. If you're wanting an upper-class hostel, go to the YHA.

Absolutely crap! Without a doubt this is the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. I stayed here in June and I still can't believe how dirty it was! The first bedroom I was given had dirt everywhere. After I complained I was given a private room which was no cleaner than the first. The dust was about an inch thick! Avoid this place at all costs!

If it weren't for the people here, I would not recommend this hostel in the slightest. They were mostly Aussie and so friendly, even though most of them had been at the hostel for awhile. I saw that there was some attempt at trying to keep the place clean, but I think that the hostel has already gone so downhill (holes in the walls, a lot of use) that it's just not a nice place anymore. I was given a sheet, but that's it. I didn't dare use the blankets, as I could not tell the last time they'd been washed. So while I agree it may be the friendliest hostel, it's definitely not the cleanest. For 15 pounds, though, I didn't expect too much, and I did stay all three days as I'd planned. Like I said, the people were wonderful! The location is fabulous (Earls Court is a terrific location in general — I'd move there!) close to supermarkets, the Tube, etc.

This hotel is terrible. The room is very small, dirty and smelly. The bathrooms are mouldy. The transportation is good, but the hotel is horrible.

What can I say, I love Nevern. I met so many cool people there. I was really sad to leave. I tried to stay far away from room 30, but somehow I ended up in there on my last night--brutal! Let's just say that I would not even use to the bathroom in there--sick! Other than room 30, how could you go wrong? It is close to the tube, poundy pints is just down the street at the richmond, it has free breakfast, and good times. I will see you again, Nevern, in 2005.

This was an ok hostel. There are many people who live in the hostel year 'round and make you feel like an outsider while you are there. It was reasonably clean, and had a GREAT location. I really could walk everywhere. Breakfast was lacking, however--a 40 lb. vat of cornflakes. It's not a great place, but far from terrible.

The bathroom on floor 3 is not so great - blocked drains means that you're standing in a foot of water, and it does not look very clean. Use another bathroom if you're on the 3rd floor. Besides that, it's a good cheap hostel.

Clean, comfortable, great kitchen with eating area. Nice bathrooms and showers. You definitely feel like you're in a hostel (not the Hilton) but the price is right, breakfast is included, the service is great, and it's very convenient. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
