Recensione di Hostelz.com
The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel is a great hostel. The rooms are really clean and offer a free locker, provided you have a lock. Located very close to the Van Gogh museum and somewhat outside the hustle and bustle was a definite plus. Transportation to the hostel is very easy.

Downstairs there is self-serve kitchen with a communal fridge. A supermarket is only about three blocks down with everything you need. The bar is open late and has good drinks at good prices. They offer free internet on three computers and the wait never seemed to be that long. Breakfast is served down in the bar every morning and it consists of cereal, breads with spreads, milk, orange juice, and coffee/tea/hot chocolate.

The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel has good security with a key coded door outside and a surveillance camera. The desk is closed at night but there is someone working the bar downstairs until late. The rooms also have key entry. They offer luggage storage the day you check out downstairs and it's locked in a room downstairs.

The front desk sells Van Gogh museum tickets so you could avoid the often-lengthy line. The staff is super friendly and helpful and they give you a map of the city with all the attractions.

You should definitely consider The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel. It's outside of the madness, but that's great if you want to just visit the madness, not stay in the middle of it.

From the train station take the Tram 1, 2, or 5 (buy your ticket on board) and it dumps you off in a square with a McDonalds and other stores. Walk over the bridge and take an right and parallel the water. You will walk by a park entrance, at the next street take a right and border the park. The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel is half way down this long street, on the left.

Couldn't ask for more!
We really enjoyed our night at this hostel! It was a fun place that catered well to backpackers -- secure facilities, clean bathrooms, and tons of useful information. It also embraces the smoking culture while not being intrusive to those not part of it. Bit of a walk from the city centre, but it's a pleasant one. The hostel is right next to a park too, and nearby several restaurants. Also the free breakfast is rockin!

Fun!
This hostel was basically what I expected it to be, which was awesome! I had a lot of fun here. The bar downstairs is always lively, which can get loud, but you can't really hear it if you are in your room. The bathrooms weren't the best. There were only three downstairs where I was staying and they would get sort of smelly and consequently stink up the halls around where I was sleeping. But this was a great place to meet people and to have a lot of fun. I would definitely go back!

It was a travesty that I went to Amsterdam, blazed, and then had to listen to the worst music ever played in succesion at the flying pig. I realize that music taste is subjective, but I was not the only one complaining. Yeah its near the park. But what they don't tell you is that every store within like three miles closes at like 5 p.m. and all day on Sunday. The staff were either unable or unwilling to help with simple requests. The bar has expensive drinks and did I mention the terrible godawful music?

Really fun. There are a lot of americans, and guys, but it is still fun. Located only a street from the central and tram stop. The bar is fun and the entire room is hot boxed. The rooms and showers are a little old but it works. I recommend it.

ive stayed here a few times over the years, off season / peak season and have mixed feelings about it. despite the air filters, downstairs bar area is so smokey and you can easily smell it from first floor. Downstairs rooms are right near the bar as well, no sleeping for you. Rooms are reasonable size, but lockers are under bottom bunk, so you always feel awkward getting your sh*t out. Great location, right near Vondel Park. Full of people from the Americas (mainly guys looking for girls), but thats Western Euro Backpacker scene in general. Kitchen is always dirty. free internet is good. breakfast is ok. staff are helpful, but just mainly just ring-in work/stay for free party animal types. not cheap, and even has surcharge for weekends! its kind of like an addiction though, hard to shake, keep going back because you dont know what it will be like next time.

This place was way too noisy for me and filled with americans everywhere. Its a good social hostel, but there are a lot of people around, so it can get a bit much. The brekkie is pretty decent, and same with the facilities. The staff were mostly helpful, bu a bit slow, esp when so mny people were waiting at the desk. If u want to party, this is the place, otherwise look fo somehing else.

This is the best hostel to stay at in Amsterdam. It's out of the insanity of the city centre where F.Pig Downtown is. But the F.Pig Uptown is still in an ideal location that is just a quick tram ride or a pleasant fifteen to twenty minute walk away. And Vondel park and the happening Leidesplein are two minutes away. Staff is awesome; they are personable and helpful. Rooms and beds are clean, and there is no smoking in them. However, this is far from a problem because the bar/computer/common room area is a better place to smoke; it is comfortable and full of new people to meet. Cheap beer, tostis, and decent music are a bonus. Price is reasonable and availability is usually not too bad. Also, we had various problems with our airline and the Pig was helpful (e.g. held our backpacks, let us use the phone, etc). You must check out this hostel when you're in Amsterdam.

Whereas the downtown location is filled with pea-brained American idiots, the Palace is filled with pea-brained British stoners. Yeah, baby! The location is excellent (Vondelpark is right next door), in a much nicer area of town and close to the best coffee shops. The staff were ok, not great but adequate. The rooms were ok. Overall, the place is just ok, but MUCH better than the downtown location (which sucks).

The rooms were average. It was interesting to have the ability to sit on the toilet while taking my shower..haha. If you are into drugs, people are always downstairs in the basement and ready to do that with you. I'm not into that, but found it easy to avoid. The location is pretty decent, right near the major museum and a beautiful park. I'd stay here again!

Great place. The rooms are nice, the breakfast is awesome!! The common room is really cozy and nice. The free internet is a plus. The only remark is the bathroom, too small, a little bit uncomfortable.

The rooms were nothing to be overly excited about. We went with high expectations because of all we'd heard, and while it wasn't the worst we've stayed in, it certainly didn't live up to the expectations we had. Overall, not bad, but more for the party type of person.

We stayed in a dorm shared by 14 people but it was not full on the nights we were there. There was a shower and toilet in the room and they were pretty clean. The room was a bit crowded and it did not have much room for luggage. Breakfast was included and it was a kind of buffet, however, with merely bread, jam, butter, egg and a few different kinds of drinks. (The orange juice was just like water!) But you can eat as much as you want. Note that the reception is NOT open 24 hours.
