A Hostel

The Location

A Hostel is five minutes' walking distance from both the train station and coach station. You will have to walk around ten minutes until you reach the Old Town area. You cannot really miss it coming from the train or bus station. The neighbourhood is busy with pedestrians, cars, and buses going by, as it is right on the main street.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The double rooms are themed -- there is one Asian-style room (see photo) and one called "Krim" with a Russian feel to it -- they do an excellent job with the themes. The kitchen is done in black and white tiles -- very stylish, maybe comparable to an American diner. There are no lockers in the double rooms. Dormitory beds are pod style. Guests are handed a key, but it is better to hang on to it and not give it to the reception when you venture out, as everyone seems to be able to get a key from the reception and they do not check to whom they give the key.

The double room has an en-suite shower and sink but no toilet. The basement rooms can be a little damp and smelly. There is some noise coming in from the traffic of the main street. The public toilet is well looked after, there are plenty of staff members around to empty the bins. The shower has no extra space but it is a hose right next to the toilet seat, which might not be everybody's cup of tea. They have plenty of toilet paper and soap.

Common Spaces

There is no extra common space but a very large and cool dining area. A computer is set in the hall with a comfy chair next to it. The kitchen consists of a microwave, kettle, toaster, and sandwich maker. There is no oven and no tin opener. There is a TV in the dining area. They have lockers in the hallway and guests can rent locks from the reception. Guests are most likely to come together in the dining area. It has a nice vibe to it and is large enough for big groups. The hostel does not allow alcohol in the rooms but in the dining area. This is a non-smoking hostel.

Summary

All in all, this is not a bad hostel at all. It's clean and has nice rooms, but the staff (older Lithuanian ladies) could be a little bit more caring about their guests.
