A comfortable hostel in a rustic setting. It's located in the Marin Headlands, a hilly natural park area in Marin, located across the bay from San Francisco. The hostel is just up the hill from the lagoon. It's a large and spacious hostel. It's a short drive from the city by car and parking is available at the hostel. Direct public transportation by bus is
only available on Sundays and holidays. But you can reach it by the Golden Gate Transit buses (see www.goldengate.org) everyday, but it's a four mile hike from the bus stop. If your pack isn't too heavy, it is a nice and scenic hike through the headlands.
The hostel itself is nice and spacious. There is a large kitchen, a large reading room with couches, and a downstairs game room with vending machines, a pool table, and a ping-pong table. The rooms are nice and clean, and the shared rooms have sturdy wooden bunk beds. The backrooms are reasonably decent, but the showers offer limited privacy. The age range of guests at the hostel ranges from occassional school groups up to senior travellers. In keeping with the transquil setting, it isn't a usually fun/social hostel. It tends to be fairly quiet and it's a good choice if you're looking for a peaceful escape away from the city.
