Jazz on South Beach hostel offers a fun atmosphere for youth travelers to socialise and engage in all that South Beach has to offer.
The Location
Jazz Hostel is located on Collins Avenue and Third Street, in a quiet neighbourhood in South Beach. The bus does not pass on this street, but the local bus can be caught just one block up the street and the bus to downtown two blocks away. There is a small supermarket just one block over, as well as a pizza place, a few restaurants, and the beach. Just three blocks further south is a lovely boardwalk for evening strolls and watching passing boats and ships. Just steps from the shopping district of south beach and the sidewalk restaurants of Ocean Drive, you will not need to go far to find anything, including the nightlife.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorm rooms are four-, eight- and twelve-bed, and private rooms are also available. Key cards allow access to your room, which are all en-suite. Many of them carry hair dryers, and some have tubs. There are plenty of wall outlets for charging cell phones and laptops in the room, as well as lockers, although some of them are broken. The mattresses are pretty decent, but the ladders on many of the beds are broken and may prove more dangerous than useful. There is daily maid service in the rooms. Linens and towels are provided.
Common Spaces
There is a patio outside for alfresco dining and smoking, but this closes at 10 p.m., after which many people retire to the lobby/lounge area, where there is always a movie on or techno music blaring. There are a few computers that are pay-per-use, and keypad lockers in the lobby for storing other valuables. There is a communal kitchen area and a guest laundry also available. Most evenings there are fliers posted for outings to various clubs and night spots, but many of the in-house activities posted don't seem to take place. There is also pay-per-use luggage storage area, and a small book exchange.
The Jazz Hostel is a lively place to meet other backpackers, who are more than willing to engage in a chat and point out their country on the oversized world map on the kitchen wall. It's a good place to meet new friends from around the world. Most of the staff are friendly, although there are a few that are less approachable.
Summary
Overall, Jazz is one of the better hostels in South Beach. It is quite affordable and there are lots of tours and outings to keep you occupied when you are not at the beach soaking up the rays.
